Working on research paper assignment allows you to showcase your research, critical thinking and essay writing skills. Writing a good paper in short period is not ideal but can be done following a few simple steps.
Here’s how to do this:
Never start your research without first narrowing down your topic to something that is specific and manageable. You won’t have time to research a broad topic so go with something you already have some knowledge in. After you do a little background reading, perhaps spending 1 or 2 hours, you will have a clearer view what approach your paper will take when you get started on the content.
Create a research plan on the first day of the week. Consider how many sources you need to include in your paper and with your thesis statement in mind make a list of the resources you will find helpful when you begin to write your paper. Because you will be short on time try sticking with short articles or encyclopedic entries. You probably won’t be able to read entire books so don’t consider these unless, of course, if they are required by your instructor.
It’s recommended that you start writing your paper by at least the third day. Create a writing plan before getting the urge to simply start writing. It’s much easier and often quicker to write a research paper once you have laid some of the groundwork. A research paper that presents an argument should begin with summary of your argument and clear thesis statement in the first paragraph. If you are writing an analytical paper you may also need to state your intent as well as what you hope to accomplish in your paper.
It is absolutely critical to leave enough time for adequate proofreading and editing before handing in your paper. Working under week’s deadline, you should plan on doing this on the very last day. You will be able to polish up your writing as well as catch all the little grammar, punctuation and spelling mistakes that can negatively affect your paper. When doing this be sure to also look for ways in which your paper can be improved by rearranging and cutting out extraneous material.
